all of the above, have things in common.
miniature heroes are chocolates that i guess have the title because they have the special powers of releasing to us those little endorphins we tend to celebrate. captain planet it has been told us, is ‘the greatest hero of them all’, but i don’t believe it. read on if you wanna hear about better, proper, intersting heroes.
Boaz is the hero from Bethlehem, the guy who shows wonderful grace, reaching beyond the demands of the law, to help a poor, widowed, helpless foreigner, Ruth. I love that we can call him a hero because he rescued and redeemed her by giving her of himself. he had the power to feed, protect, comfort, ultimately to redeem in marriage.. it’s a true fairytale with a human, smalltown hero.
Clark Kent is the famed, Smallville-grown superhero, far beyond our comprehension.I’ve been watching tons of Smallville recently, it’s so captivating to see how in protecting, saving and watching over his friends -never mind the world- Clark bears a burden. it costs him to be the hero, even within the constraints of a small-ville. He denies himself comfort and suffers pain for people, often undeserving ones. That’s why we respect him as a character…
in it, Lex has some amazing lines. i love this one: ‘I don’t believe in obligation’. I love that phrase because to say it, is so rebellious and liberating at the same time. He doesn’t feel like he ought to do or be anything in particular, or perhaps, he doesn’t let those feelings stay with him for long and ignores them. Clark on the other hand might also say that statement but for other reasons: he doesn’t need persuasion in order to believe in obligation. He doesn’t feel obliged to save, help or support; he is compelled to. He’s quick off the mark to rescue others, and needn’t believe in obligation, it just comes naturally.
a hero by nature
heroes love; see need and try to meet it.. show mercy and show it in unvarying measure. i think we’re called to go beyond obligation and be gracious, to give what we have endlessly for the sake of comforting and blessing others..heroes actually fix things-satisfying payments or using their resources to solve what problems you cannot… i guess there’s more to think about on this subject, still processing/formulating.
there’s a need for a bigger hero. that leaves plenty of room for one greater than those of Enrique Iglesias or Mariah Carey (that’d be you or me). The Hero with a big ‘H’ has to be the one to whom no other hero can compare… in power, love or motive. Jesus saved us before we even thought we needed it, fixing our problem of broken relationship with God…before we called out for it.
even still.even now. even then.
saved by Jesus, saved with the grace of a Hero.
